These are current prices for residential driveway paving in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, including materials, labour, standard sub-base preparation and cleanup:
Brick Paver Driveways
- Recycled brick pavers: $75–$130/m²
- Standard clay brick (herringbone): $85–$150/m²
- Premium clay brick (complex pattern): $130–$175/m²

What's a Typical Driveway Size?
Single driveway: 20–30m². Double driveway: 40–60m². Extended or forecourt: 60–100m²+.
A double brick driveway (50m²) at mid-range prices ($115/m²) comes to approximately $5,750 supply and install.
Additional Costs to Budget For
- Concrete removal: $45–$75/m² — if there's an existing concrete driveway
- Difficult access: $500–$1,500 — narrow gates, steep slopes, limited truck access
- Retaining or edging: $85–$180/lm — if the driveway needs contained edges
- Drainage pits: $350–$600 each — if surface water needs to be directed underground
Why Prices Vary So Much Between Quotes
Three contractors quote the same driveway and give three completely different prices. Here's why: the cheapest quote is almost always cutting corners on base preparation. 80mm of base instead of 150mm. Sand instead of road base. No compaction testing. It will look fine for 2–3 years, then start sinking.
Always ask what depth they excavate to and what base material they use before accepting any quote.
