Bluestone Paving Melbourne — Melbourne's South-East

Bluestone is Victoria's signature natural stone — durable, slip-resistant, and strikingly beautiful. It suits both contemporary and heritage homes and is one of the most popular choices for alfresco areas, pool surrounds, front entries, and garden paths across Melbourne.

We work with sawn bluestone (smooth, modern finish), natural bluestone (rough-split, traditional), and honed bluestone (polished, premium finish). The right choice depends on the setting, foot traffic, and your aesthetic preference — we'll advise you during the site visit.

All our bluestone jobs start with proper base preparation — typically 100–150mm of compacted road base — which is the key to preventing movement and cracking over time. We use full-bed mortar or sand-set systems depending on the application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is bluestone slippery when wet?

Natural split and sawn bluestone are naturally slip-resistant. Honed bluestone can become slippery when wet and we recommend an anti-slip sealer for pool surrounds and wet areas. We always advise on the right finish for the application.

How do you clean and seal bluestone?

Bluestone should be sealed 4–6 weeks after installation with a penetrating stone sealer. Routine cleaning with pH-neutral stone cleaner is all that's needed. Avoid acid-based cleaners. We can advise on the best sealer for your finish.

Does bluestone crack?

Bluestone is extremely durable but like any natural stone, poor base preparation can cause cracking. We use a proper compacted base and appropriate mortar or bedding sand to prevent movement. We've never had a bluestone job crack due to our workmanship.
