Pool Paving Melbourne — Melbourne's South-East

Pool paving is one of the most safety-critical outdoor jobs we do — the wrong material or finish on a pool surround can be genuinely dangerous when wet. We only recommend and install materials that provide proper slip resistance around water.

Popular choices for Melbourne pool surrounds include bluestone (naturally slip-resistant, elegant), travertine (warm tone, popular for resort-style pools), large-format porcelain with anti-slip finish, and sandstone. All materials we use around pools meet Australian slip resistance standards.

We also pay close attention to drainage falls around pools — the paving must slope away from the pool edge correctly to prevent waterlogging and ensure water drains to the appropriate points rather than back into the pool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What paving is best around a pool?

The most important factor is slip resistance when wet. We recommend bluestone (natural slip resistance), travertine, or anti-slip porcelain. All materials should meet the R11 slip rating minimum for pool surrounds. Polished or honed finishes are not appropriate around pools without anti-slip treatment.

Does the paving need a specific fall around a pool?

Yes — pool surrounds should have a minimum 1:80 fall away from the pool edge to direct water to drainage points. This prevents water pooling on the surface and reduces slip risk. We always set the correct falls as part of every pool paving job.

Can you pave around an existing pool?

Yes. Most of our pool paving jobs involve existing pools where the surround needs upgrading or replacing. We work carefully around pool equipment, skimmer boxes, and returns to ensure everything is properly waterproofed and drained.
