Its light colour reflects heat, so travertine stays noticeably cooler than bluestone or charcoal pavers on hot days — a big plus around pools and play areas.
Tumbled and unfilled finishes have a textured surface that gives good grip outdoors, including wet areas around pools.
Warm cream and beige tones that suit period homes, new builds and everything in between — without looking dated in ten years.
A classic choice for pool coping and surrounds. See our pool paving page for coping options.
A dense natural stone that handles Melbourne's weather for decades when it's laid on a proper base and sealed.
If a paver is ever damaged, it can be cut out and replaced individually — no need to redo the whole area.

Softened edges and a lightly textured, aged surface. The most popular choice for outdoor patios.
Best for: patios, pools, pathsA smooth, matte finish for a cleaner, more contemporary look. Less grip when wet, so it suits covered areas best.
Best for: covered alfresco areasUnfilled travertine keeps its natural surface holes for extra grip and a rustic look; filled travertine has them filled for a smoother finish.
Natural stone is only as good as what's underneath it. Every travertine job follows the same process.

Antonio completed our bluestone paving in Hampton and the result is outstanding. The levels, drainage and finishing details are flawless. Highly recommended for high-end paving.
We had a fairly complicated drainage issue on the site, but Antonio came up with a solution and executed it perfectly. The workmanship was top quality, and there were no unexpected surprises along the way.
Antonio runs a very professional small business. Friendly, punctual and hard working. Built 2 retaining walls and remodelled our driveway paving. Would use Antonio's service again.
Antonio and his colleague did a great job with our backyard brick laying. Easy to deal with, on time and professional.
Antonio just completed some brick paving alongside our front fence. The paving looks fabulous and was completed in 2 days. He was reliable and the work was completed to a high standard.
Antonio cleared out our small backyard, laid some pavers and built a step around our existing deck. He was quick to respond, well priced, and was happy to change and vary the scope of works as needed.
It depends on the job. Stone laid on a mortar bed — crazy paving, and bluestone or travertine around pools and patios — usually gets grouted joints, which are firm and easy to keep clean. Pavers laid on a compacted sand and crushed-rock base, like brick and concrete pavers on driveways and paths, get polymeric sand, which sets firm, stays slightly flexible and helps keep weeds and ants out. We recommend the right one for your area on the site visit.
Most travertine jobs we quote fall between $180 and $280 per m² supplied and laid. The final price depends on area, access, demolition of the existing surface, base preparation, the grade and finish of the stone and the pattern. Yes — it's one of the most popular pool paving materials. Tumbled or unfilled travertine gives good grip when wet, and its light colour stays cooler underfoot than darker stone in summer. We'll recommend the right finish and coping for your pool at the quote.
We recommend it. Travertine is a natural, porous stone, and a quality penetrating sealer helps it resist stains from food, leaves and pool chemicals. It should be resealed every few years depending on use and exposure.
Tumbled and unfilled travertine has a textured surface with good grip outdoors. Honed (smooth) travertine has less grip when wet, so we suggest it for covered areas rather than pool surrounds.
Both are excellent and long-lasting. Travertine is lighter, warmer-looking and stays cooler in the sun; bluestone is darker, gets hotter in full sun and has a classic Melbourne look. The best choice depends on your home's style and how the area will be used.
A standard patio of around 20m² usually takes 3–5 working days from excavation to final clean-up, weather permitting. Larger areas, demolition and pool surrounds take longer — your written quote includes an expected timeframe.
