A wood-fired pizza oven or fireplace area is a masonry and paving project: a solid base and plinth, a brick, block or stone-clad surround, hearth space for wood storage, and a paved floor that can take heat and ash. We build the masonry structure and paving; prefabricated oven kits and chimneys come from your supplier and are installed to their specifications.
Ovens are heavy. We pour a reinforced footing and base sized for the oven and surround, so nothing cracks or tilts on Melbourne's reactive clay.
Face brick, firebrick-lined surrounds, bluestone and sandstone all handle heat well. The floor around the oven should be non-combustible — bluestone, brick or porcelain — and sealed so ash and grease clean off.
Keep the oven clear of the house, fences and trees, think about where smoke will drift, and check council rules and fire danger restrictions. Most projects cost $3,300–$16,500+ depending on size and finishes; surrounding paving is priced per m² from our price list.
