Vermont's clay and slopes send runoff downhill. Permeable paving slows it and helps rain soak in near the gardens. The surface looks like a normal paved driveway, but the joints and the base let rain soak through, which cuts puddles and runoff to the street. In the City of Whitehorse, a new or widened vehicle crossing needs a council permit, and stormwater from the driveway must go to the legal point of discharge that council sets for your property. For new homes and units, Victorian planning rules also expect at least 20% of the site to be left permeable, and permeable pavers can help meet that.
